Holding a mackerel fish with tongs while removing a fish hook from the lip i.e. catch and release
Catch and Release is removing the hook from the mouth of the fish, and returning the fish to the ocean.
Once you have reeled the fish up, bring the fish in over the rail of the pier.
Grab a towel or tongs and secure the fish in one hand. See the picture above.
Do not touch the fish with your hands. Some species of fish have posion in their fins. When threatened the fish will push the fin upward in an attempt to free itself and the fin could easily poke your hand. Use tongs or a towel.
With the fish secure in one hand, take your other hand and gently remove the hook.
Return the fish to the ocean. Catch and Release, that is all there is to it.
Come join us on the pier and experience the thrill of pier fishing.
